Long-Term Plans

For starters, let’s take a look at the company’s broad long-term goals. Subaru Corporation has stated that it intends to reduce vehicle emissions by a total 90 percent by the time 2050 rolls around. Even though 2050 seems like a long time away, that’s still a pretty aggressive goal. In order to reach that goal, the company has already laid out some great objectives to hit by 2030, twenty years before its long-term deadline.

Reorganized Production System

This reorganization comes with two immediate goals in mind – 1. steady production of ICEV and HEVs throughout the transition to BEVs and 2. efficient production of BEVs.

Electric Vehicle Roadmap

What will all of this reorganization allow the company to do? Subaru intends to begin in-house production of its own battery electric vehicles in the 2025 calendar year, slowly leading to its own dedicated production lines in 2027. The company’s goal for electrification through 2030 is to achieve 40 percent of global sales being hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

One key takeaway from these announcements is that the company is not going to abruptly cease production of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. While the selection of hybrid and fully electric vehicles will increase over the next seven years, you’ll still have plenty of pure gasoline options from which to choose as well.

Everything kicks off with the 2023 Subaru Solterra, which is just the first step in what’s sure to be a long but exciting journey to the electric future.
