Since 2013, Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technologies have literally saved lives. So, what is Subaru EyeSight? Simply put, it is a group of advanced safety features that includes Pre-Collision Braking, Automatic Emergency Steering, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Advanced Headlights, DriverFocus, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Blind-Spot Detection.  

How Does the System Work? 

Subaru EyeSight utilizes a group of cameras to see all that is happening around the vehicle and anticipate any potential threats or issues before they arise. If the driver is not paying attention or is not able to hit the brakes in time, the Subaru will automatically engage the brakes to prevent various types of collisions. In some cases, such as slow drivers merging onto a busy highway, your Subaru can even take control of the steering system to avoid an accident.  

What Are Some Special Features? 

Other safety features such as Advanced Headlights not only activate the high beams automatically if the car notices the road is too dark or switch them off if it sees lights coming in the car’s direction, but the headlights also turn left or right with the steering wheel to give even better sight when going around corners and turns at night.

Subaru is not only proud of its hard work in developing and implementing some of the most advanced safety technology ever created, but the manufacturer also works just as hard to engineer cars that are safe regardless of any technology assisting and aiding drivers. In current testing for the 2024 model year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded five Subaru models with their coveted Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ designation. The Top Safety Pick models include the 2024 Impreza, WRX, and Outback, while the Top Safety Pick+ models include the pure EV Solterra and 7-passenger Ascent.  

Consecutive Years as The Safest Cars 

Thanks to Subaru EyeSight and exceptional engineering and manufacturing, the Subaru Solterra has been a Top Safety Pick+ since its introduction in 2023. The Ascent has been given the TSP+ award for the past four years in a row. The Outback and Impreza are on their 16th and 17th consecutive years on the IIHS’s list, respectively. While the latest Subaru Forester has not been tested, it, too, has enjoyed 17 years in a row being a Top Safety Pick.
