Travis Pastrana Rocks Goodwood Festival of Speed

You may know Travis Pastrana from his glory days of winning 16 gold medals at the X Games. Or maybe you first heard of him after winning 5 gold medals at the Gravity Games. Or, it’s possible that you didn’t know about him until he started his rallying career. Since 1999, Travis Pastrana has become a household name in the world of motorsports, whether it’s on a bike or in a car. He is an absolute wild man who got his start racing in Motocross, winning multiple championships, later going to the X Games and Gravity Games; and in between all of these amazing performances on a motorbike, he started another career driving with Subaru in 2003. 

The Festival For All

In 2022 Pastrana first went to England for the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed. Goodwood is one of the most renowned motoring events in the world. First debuting in 1993, Goodwood has become the annual place for passion for all things automotive, featuring vintage racing, and a hillclimb shootout event. During the multi-day event, it draws crowds of more than 100,000 people who come from all over the world to enjoy the drivers, cars, celebrities, and the races themselves. 

1983 Subaru GL Wagon – Family Huckster

Coming back to the Hillclimb event after taking 5th overall in 2022, Travis Pastrana brought his trusty 1983 Subaru GL Wagon, wonderfully named the “Family Huckster”, and took a well-deserved first in class and second overall in the 1.16-mile Hillclimb Shootout. The rally-prepped GL Wagon was fully built to entertain and to be used at Goodwood, and then was featured in Gymkhana 2022 with Travis behind the wheel. It has an 862 horsepower Subaru Boxer 4-cylinder engine and incredible active aerodynamics, such as a deployable wing, pop-up air brakes, and the like. 

Gymkhana 

First released in 2008, Gymkhana became a set of viral motoring videos originally co-created by rally and stunt-driving icon Ken Block. Unfortunately, Block passed away in a terrible snowmobiling accident in January of 2023 at the age of 55. He was the leader of a movement and co-founder of Hoonigan, a company that makes automotive-themed clothing and specializes in creating fun cars and video content.

When asked about the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Mr. Pastrana said: “I thought we couldn’t be more sideways than we were last year! I think I had more fun than anyone possibly could have. We couldn’t leave anything on the table — we’re here for Ken Block, in tribute to Ken. It’s just an honor to be driving that car up this hill. You couldn’t ask for more.”
