Three Subaru Forester Hidden Features

The 2022 Subaru Forester is known for its reliability, utility, and value. Key Fob Tricks

Many of the Subaru Forester’s hidden features lie right in its key fob. Push-start functions are unbelievably convenient, but what do you do when the key fob battery dies? In that case, you might have trouble starting or unlocking the vehicle. Luckily, you have options. There’s a hidden key in many Subaru key fobs, accessed by a small button on the side. The hidden key only unlocks the driver side door, but it will allow you to get in your vehicle. So how are you supposed to start the vehicle then? There’s a transmitter hidden inside the fob that you press against the push-button start that works even with a dead battery. Touch the fob to the button, then push your brakes to start as normal.

Auto Vehicle Hold

Many vehicles have that one button that you’ve never used because you don’t know what it does. For many, that’s the AVH function. It’s not a common term, so what does it do? The AVH button to the left of the shifter knob serves its function during long traffic waits, like at a traffic light or train crossing. Instead of putting the vehicle in park, you can simply push the button to activate the auto hold. Then, once you’re ready to go again, hit the gas to release the automatic brake.

Memory Tailgate

Sometimes, the rear tailgate doesn’t seem to raise quite high enough for the cargo you’re trying to load, or maybe you aren’t tall enough to reach the buttons once the gate is up. There’s a handy trick to reset the tailgate’s memory so that it will lift to just the right height for you ever time. Start setting the memory by opening the gate, then press the stop button once it’s reached the height you want. Then, go to your dash and press the memory button. Go back to the hatch, press and hold the close button until you hear a chirp and see the taillights flash. That’s it! You can also reset the memory or turn it off temporarily, press the memory switch on the dash.
