Off Road with the new Subaru Crosstrek

When Subaru redesigned the 2024 Crosstrek, they listened to customers who wanted more off-road prowess and usability. With 30 more horsepower and 36 more lb-ft of torque for the 2.5-liter Inline-4, the Crosstrek Wilderness adds a 4.11 final drive ratio, a transmission cooler, and a higher 9.3-inch ground clearance, which is greater than that of the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands and the upcoming 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. The Wilderness also has suspension, allowing higher degrees of approach, breakover, and departure angles of 20, 21.1, and 33 degrees.

Towing with the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Capabilities

While the previous Crosstrek could tow up to 1,500 lbs when properly equipped, the 2024 model can tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly loaded, which means that the Wilderness trim can tackle anything you throw at it. If you are an avid camper, angler or want to tow a small boat, jet skis, or a motorcycle, the Subaru provides for you with its capabilities.

X-MODE

Speaking of capabilities, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek features the brilliant X-MODE system that allows you to tell the vehicle what type of terrain you are driving on so that it can make the most of its traction and stability control systems. As Joel Feder of Motor Authority said in his recent review of the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, “Other automakers, looking at you Toyota, should take note of Subaru’s hill descent control. It’s an idiot-proof setup that is automatically engaged when X-Mode is on. As soon as the car crests a hill and or starts heading down a hill, the system engages and maintains whatever speed the vehicle was going upon cresting and heading downwards—no buttons to click or variables to check. The system operates more smoothly and quietly than Toyota’s with no clunks or thunks that immediately induce concern.”
