Subaru Earns 2024 IIHS Top Safety Pick Awards for Solterra and WRX

It should come as no shock to anyone that Subaru has continued to be one of the best automakers when it comes to safety. With a cumulative total of 72 Top Safety Pick awards by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) since 2013, Subaru vehicles are nothing if not protective of their occupants. The automaker has been taking safety seriously since day one, and especially since it started putting all-wheel drive in all its vehicles as standard (except for the BRZ), believing that it is 100% a safety feature.

The 2024 Subaru WRX, Impreza, and Outback have been given the Top Safety Pick designation, with the 2024 Ascent and Solterra taking the Top Safety Pick+ awards. This marks four consecutive years that the Ascent has been a TSP+ winner, while the Impreza and Outback have both been consecutive TSP winners for the past 17 and 16 years, respectively. Both the WRX and the Solterra earned a “Superior” rating in pedestrian front crash prevention.

New Crash Testing Standards 

The 2024 crash regulations were updated by the IIHS. To be awarded a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ designation, vehicles had to pass a more rigorous side impact test, needed a top-notch pedestrian front crash prevention system, as well as better moderate front overlap crash safety. One of the reasons why it is such a big deal that the WRX was given a Top Safety Pick award is that most buyers get a WRX with a manual transmission, and 2024 is the first year that EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology has been available as standard on all WRX models, including those with a manual transmission. The award-winning advanced driver assistance technology adds Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Prevention, and Pre-Collision Brake Assist to vehicles with a manual and the Subaru Performance automotive transmission.  

Prices and Trim Levels for the WRX and Impreza 

For 2024 the Subaru WRX is offered in five trim levels (Base, Premium, Limited, TR, and GT) and has a base MSRP of $33,855. The Impreza is available in three trim levels (Base, Sport, and RS) with the Base trim having a base MSRP of only $24,115.  

Prices and Trim Levels for the Outback and Ascent 

The 2024 Outback has a base price of just $30,315 and is available in nine trim levels (Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, Touring, Onyx Edition XT, Wilderness, Limited XT, and Touring XT). The Subaru Ascent starts at $35,740 and can be had in eight different trim levels (Base 8-passenger, Premium 8-passenger, Premium 7-passenger, Onyx Edition 7-passenger, Limited 8-passenger, Limited 7-passenger, Onyx Edition Limited 7-passenger, and the Touring 7-passenger).  

Price and Trim Levels for the Solterra EV 

Finally, the Subaru Solterra, the company’s first and only fully electric vehicle, is available in three trim levels (Premium, Limited, and Touring), with a base price of $46,340. With a range of 222 to 227 miles, depending on wheel and tire options, buyers will love the standard all-wheel drive and great ride comfort, as well as excellent safety.
