Gear Patrol Names Crosstrek Best Compact Car

Gear Patrol, the award-winning publication that started in 2007, has named the all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek as its Best Compact Car, saying that it is what buyers want in “an affordable package”. 

What’s New

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is all-new and has been upgraded with fantastic features. On the new Wilderness trim, you are able to tow up to 3,500 lbs, with upgraded suspension with all-terrain tires. There is now more than half an inch of extra ground clearance at 9.3. The non-Wilderness models feature 1,500 lbs of towing capacity and have 8.7 inches of ground clearance.

In their review, Gear Patrol said, “The Crosstrek, however, looks much more like what it is: a car that’s aspiring to take on some SUV traits. It sits at the same sort of height and offers a similar view of the road as other compact crossovers, but it comes across as more of the elevated hatchback it is than, say, a baby Bronco. Subaru’s design language has long operated this way — the Outback, Ascent and even Forester are much the same — and it is, at least to my eyes, refreshingly unpretentious in an era where carmakers are masquerading almost everything as an SUV of sorts.” 

Engines

With your choice of either a 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer® 4-Cylinder making 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer® 4-Cylinder producing 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. The Base and Premium trims with the 2.0-liter motor can get 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway fuel mileage, respectively. The 2.5-liter motor Sport and Limited trims get just 1 mpg less per driving cycle. 

Safety Is Standard

Standard safety equipment is one of the best qualities of the new 2024 Crosstrek. Features include EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. The Wilderness model also comes standard with Automatic Emergency Steering and Reverse Automatic Braking. 

Wireless!

All but the Base trim Crosstrek feature an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
