Four 2024 Subaru Models Bring Home IIHS Top Safety Pick Awards

Subaru of Rochester is proud to announce that three of its 2024 models have been awarded TOP SAFETY PICKS by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). An additional model achieved the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, the highest IIHS rating.

Requirements for Top Safety Pick designations were made more stringent for 2024, with upgraded thresholds for side impact protection, the moderate front overlap test, and pedestrian crash prevention systems.

“We followed the tougher requirements we introduced last year with another major update to the award criteria in 2024,” said IIHS President David Harkey. “This year’s winners are true standouts, offering the highest level of protection for both vehicle occupants and other vulnerable road users.”

Subaru models have a long history of being TOP SAFETY PICK winners. In fact, for the past eleven years, Subaru has received a cumulative total of 71 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, which is more than any other brand. To qualify for the 2024 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle must earn a “Good” rating in:

• Updated side impact 
• Driver-side small overlap front
• Passenger-side small overlap front 
• Original moderate overlap front

A vehicle must also at least earn an “Acceptable” in the newly revised moderate overlap front test, which now considers the safety of rear-seat passengers. In addition, standard headlights must be rated as “Good” or “Acceptable.” Available front crash prevention systems must earn “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
