A Subaru EV With 900 Miles of Range Is Coming

The Subaru Solterra Electric Vehicle is the only EV Subaru has to offer at this current moment. However, they have promised at least 3 new all-electric crossovers by 2026, with more production efficiency to coincide with the extra electric cars in the Subaru lineup. 

According to Subaru, they will be building a dedicated EV production line at their Oizumi plant in 2027, as well as adding an EV production line at the Yajima plant around 2026. Each production line will be able to build 200,000 EVs per year. With a total number of 400,000 electric vehicles to be made per year and 4 electric SUVs brought to the market by 2026, expect Subaru to become a leader in the United States in EV sales and production. 

But how exactly is Subaru going to start making EVs that will have 900 miles of range? That’s where their partnership with Toyota comes into play. Toyota owns 20% of Subaru, and that stake allows Subaru to utilize the technology that Toyota is engineering and building, including battery tech. A new report states that Toyota is working on a new generation of lithium-ion solid-state batteries that Toyota says will completely revolutionize the electric vehicle industry and that it will have 600 miles of range and be available in 2026. 

The Automotive News recently was able to speak with Subaru of America COO Jeff Walters, and he said, “With the announcement that incoming Subaru CEO Atsushi Osaki announced three future EVs joining the Solterra in our lineup in 2025 and 2026, our product lineup has never been more full or robust in the company’s history. We are going to be busy launching a lot of new car lines. You’ve got to have a product, you’ve got to have a new product, and you’ve got to have a great product to succeed in this business, and we’re going to have that in spades over the next three years.”
