2024 Impreza and Crosstrek Join Subaru IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Winners

As another Minnesota winter approaches, driving safety becomes a top concern.  We want to drive as safely as possible on our snow-covered roads and be protected as well as possible against those who don’t.  That is why Subaru of Rochester is so pleased to announce that our two newest redesigned models have been designated as TOP SAFETY PICK winners by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Specifically, the 2024 Impreza received a TOP SAFETY PICK + award, which is the institute’s highest designation. The 2024 Crostrek came in just under as a TOP SAFETY PICK.  The models join most of the rest of the Subaru lineup as TOP SAFETY PICK winners:

2023 TOP SAFETY PICK + Winners

• 2024 Impreza 5-door (Total of four TSP+)
• 2024 Outback (TSP for 15 consecutive years)
• 2024 Ascent (TSP for six consecutive years)
• 2024 Solterra 

2023 TOP SAFETY PICK Winners

• 2024 Crosstrek (Total of six TSP+)
• 2024 Legacy (TSP for 18 consecutive years)
• 2024 Forester (TSP for 17 consecutive years)

You won’t find another brand with this kind of safety performance from IIHS. In fact, Subaru has received a cumulative total of 70 TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, which is more than any other brand across the past ten years. 

To qualify for the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, a vehicle must earn a “Good” rating in these impact tests:

• Updated side impact 
• Driver-side small overlap front
• Passenger-side small overlap front 
• Original moderate overlap front.

IIHS wants its winners to be able to avoid impacts as well, thus additional TSP+ requirements include standard headlights rated as “Good” or “Acceptable”. Available front crash prevention systems that earn “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in effectiveness for both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. “We are thrilled that seven of our 2024 models received a 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award, especially under the new criteria,” said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer, Subaru of America, Inc. “This is a testament to our commitment of providing customers with vehicles set to the highest safety standards.”

Symmetrical AWD that optimizes available traction in poor conditions isn’t even taken into account in the evaluations and yet Subaru believes in it so much it is standard on every model they produce with the exception of the BRZ sports car.
